The purpose of this extension to the Avándaro house is to create an intimate space that makes the most of the connection with the natural environment of Valle de Bravo through a light and harmonious structure, so that users can enjoy the panoramic view of the lake and the vegetation, so that the main room functions as a regenerative refuge, integrating nature and comfort in an atmosphere of serenity.
Located in Avándaro, an area known for its mountainous surroundings and proximity to Valle de Bravo Lake, the house receives an extension in the master bedroom area through a parasite built into the roof. This structure is presented as a glass box facing the best view available: the lake, surrounded by forests and mountains, in a temperate climate that varies between 12 and 22 °C throughout the year. The region is known for its abundant green areas and biodiversity, elements that the intervention seeks to highlight and respect.
The glass box, which contains a bathtub, offers an immersive experience of the surrounding landscape. By allowing a panoramic view from the inside, the structure turns the space into a private viewing point where users can enjoy natural light and the visual spectacle offered by the natural environment. This design choice directly connects the user to the landscape without interruptions, creating an atmosphere of rest and contemplation.
The parasite structure uses lightweight materials to minimize the weight on the existing structure and preserve the stability of the original house. Local stone finishes add a layer of visual integration with the surroundings, connecting the parasite to the natural context and reinforcing its low-impact aesthetic. These local materials not only optimize the construction process, but also reduce the environmental footprint of the project by avoiding unnecessary transportation and supporting the local economy through the use of indigenous resources.
Regenerative Advantages and User Experience
This extension becomes a regenerative space by allowing inhabitants to experience the calm and beauty of the landscape from the comfort of their home, promoting physical and mental well-being. The terrace, adjacent to the master bedroom, is designed to foster moments of connection with the environment, serving as a space for relaxation and appreciation of nature. The integration of natural elements into the interior design, such as the glass box, allows for a complete sensory experience and helps reduce the disconnection between the interior space and the natural environment.
The extension of this house in Avándaro uses environmentally conscious design and materials to provide a living experience that integrates the natural beauty of Valle de Bravo and a lifestyle that values regeneration and respect for the environment.
