Artist's Statement

“In this universe, even what is called evil, when it is rightly ordered and kept in place, commends to the more eminently, since good things yield greater pleasure and praise when compared to the bad things…As long, then, as a thing is being corrupted, there is good in of which it is being deprived; and in this process, if something of its being remains that cannot be further corrupted, this will then be an incorruptible entity (natura incorruptibilis), and to this great good it will have come though the process of corruption.”

-Saint Augustine (The Problem of Evil: The Privation of Good)

Happiness is not something we should expect on a daily basis.  If we can begin to accept the subtle and cyclical arrival of happiness, we may more easily become content within ourselves.  Divine admiration and immense jealousy are two feeling stirred up within me when I meditate on the epic journey of a Saint. I am saddened knowing my life can hardly be as rich in experiences as that of a many Saints.

Saint Augustine’s argument for The Problem of Evil has taught me there is no triumph without failure and that in the contrast of those experiences lays true victory. These two artistic suites depict both good and evil.  The images are subject centered drawings and photographs dealing with contrasting journeys.  The suites are intended to embed a sense of Sainthood within each viewer because of their direct or indirect relation to the work.  My intent is for individuals to walk away positively questioning their own spiritual destination.   I now invite you to venture the work by placing your mouse over the links below.
